The Tower of Stonks
““ Then they said, ‘Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves; otherwise we shall be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.” ”
The Tower of Stonks is ZXEROKOOL’s reinterpretation of The Tower of Babel (1563) by Pieter Bruegel the Elder.
Throughout history, mankind has sought to achieve great feats, just as the 1563 painting depicts the iconic Biblical story of mankind’s thirst for reaching heights in achievement which try to mimic the Heavens, ZXEROKOOL’s The Tower of Stonks is a contemporary allegory of society’s thirst for dominance in the online world – which has become irrevocably tethered to our offline reality.
The epic battle of our time is no longer just that between the unseen forces of good and evil, which have become increasingly subjective - but an amalgamation of forces in the metaverse which culminate into the phygital condition. Everyone wants to go To The Moon in the era of Stonks.
What we do online echoes in reality. From Reddit message boards to chat groups, the forces that shape our world no longer reside in one predictable narrative but a cabal of memes, messages, and mayhem.
We’re living in an era akin to that of the early gold rush, except this time the rush is happening in the metaverse or sectors are driven by technological advancement.
From dogecoin, meme stocks (or as they say stonks) to game-changing technology companies that have built up a cult following to celebrities who wield their social media influence like the sword of destiny - we might all be going to the Moon one day (or not).
Whatever the case, just as nobody could have foreseen what the world is today decades ago, it’s futile to predict the future. What matters is not that we strive for more, but to strive for things we enjoy, the company of those who matter to us, and maybe we can all get our piece of the Stonks in this wild phygital game of life.
